The heatwave continues and so does the amount of pollen in the air. It’s been many years since I last went down properly with hayfever. Naively, I thought I was free of it forever. Foolishness obviously, judging from my streaming nose and insanely itchy eyes.

I had planned to spend most of today on the plot, clearing away the weeds which are threatening to overrun all the beds. But having spent the day outside celebrating a friend’s birthday, I woke up this morning completely exhausted from a combination of the heat and hayfever. I hid inside most of the day, hoping that the forecast rain would appear. So pressing the weed situation is, I was quite prepared to weed in the rain provided there was heavy enough rain to lower the nightmarish pollen count.

By nearly half past six, there was still no sign of rain so I headed out to feed the chickens. Bracing myself, I ran around them all, swapping old water for new, topping up food bowls and throwing out treats. By the time I got home, I swore that next time I go down it’ll be in a full hazmat suit if that meant my eyes weren’t so itchy!
