Sadly we lost Quentin Quimby today. He showed no signs of illness at all and we have no idea why he passed away. Poor Quentin was rescued by a friend who has a plot on a different allotment site. He was walking his dog when he came across some unsavoury types trying to feed Quentin to a cat. Andy intervened and saved him but couldn’t keep him. So he put a plea out for someone to rescue him and I immediately offered to look after him.

I hardly expected him to survive the night after the shock and stress. However, the next morning, there he was walking about in the pet carrier. We got him two girls, Quinn and Queenie who he looked after well. Quentin always let the girls eat first, making sure they were full before he tucked in. Without Quentin, we just have Queenie left. I’m not sure quite what to do. Do we get another couple of quail to keep her company? Or do we put her in with Gertie so she has some company?

Either way, I will miss Quentin and his unbelievably loud crow. The garden won’t be the same without him.
