RIP Aurora

On Friday afternoon, Aurora seemed very quiet. We’d assumed she was broody as she has been spending lots of the day in her favourite secluded spot on the lawn. However, when I went to pick her up to put her back in the run, I realised she had lost weight and seemed somewhat unsteady on her legs. I assumed it was because she’s been broody and her legs were stiff.

When I came out into the garden on Saturday morning,I found she had passed away overnight. Aurora was a beautiful fluffy girl who strangely insisted on running out of the coop shrieking like she was being hunted. Always gentle and often at the bottom of the pecking order, she plodded around the garden with her best friend Arcus. She also seemed to enjoy spending time outside in the rain, often getting rather sodden rather than hide away in a warm, dry nest box. Aurora was a lovely hen and will be much missed by the Topknot Gang (and us!).
