Sad news from the plot this evening when my husband went down to check on the chickens at the plot. In the nest box, he found Rey. She had passed away in her sleep.
Rey was born the same summer as Leia and was her steadfast companion her whole life. Always flighty, she wasn’t the most domesticated but she had a feisty, confident personality.
Rey was hatched by Phil and Steve and joined our flock as a companion for Leia who was on her own due to struggling with her walking. They grew up together, always inseparable and later they were joined by Lilja. When Leia passed away, Rey lived in the main coop with the others, forming a close bond with Polly. It’s sad to see our flock without a cream legbar – they are such lovely birds with hilarious personalities. We will miss Rey as the rest of the flock will…
