Upon arrival on site today, Cliff told me that the beautiful Buff Orpington had died whilst we were away. It’s a rather tragic end for such a stunning bird. She seemed to be recovering from her injury but she didn’t seem to want to eat much or mix with the other girls.
In the main coop, we discovered two eggs laid in ridiculous places. I honestly have no idea which chicken refuses to use the nest box like a normal hen. The first one was tucked away at the back of the coop underneath the perches. But the second had to be seen to be believed! It has been laid on the tiny ledge at the base of the run. How a hen managed to balance there as she laid her egg is entirely beyond me!
With the rain closing in again, we did one final check of the coops as there has been a fox on site recently. Everyone all accounted for, we set off home armed with two egg boxes of eggs.
