Good News

Over the past few weeks, I have been worried about Gertie. She’s been spending the majority of the day huddled on her perch. I kept bringing her down and encouraging her to eat. She would eat a little bit quickly lose interest. I’ve tried her on layers mash which she begrudgingly is eating although without any enthusiasm.

But over the last couple of days, she has been off her perch more often and has been busy scratching and turning over her food bowls. In fact, Gertie had eaten so much that I could see how full her crop was several feet away. I refilled her food bowls and watched as she continued to attack the food. Depth perception isn’t one of Gertie’s strengths but enthusiasm definitely is!

I’m so relieved she’s eating properly again. I think she is lonely and needs the company of another special needs chicken. The question is, where can I find one?
