This afternoon after work, I popped down to the allotment to feed the chickens. The weather was increasingly wet so I took shelter in the coop. After feeding the chickens, I had a good look at the nest box. I was pleased to see the shed felt additions seem to be working and have kept the water out.
Upon opening the nest box, I was fascinated to find Emily in the box. He comb is a deep red which implies she is laying but she lays so rarely these days, I half forget that she still lays the occasional egg! Half a dozen eggs were collected and I ambled up to the shed to sit and ponder where I am going to plant the new trees. The rain was heavier at this point so I sat in the shed for a while until it lessened. I reorganised a few bits and found an enormous pile of eggs boxes on the front mat. Honestly, I have never seen so many and they make a unique feature in the shed currently!
If the weather improves tomorrow, I will be down and starting to clear the weeds around the fruit section of the plot. Key word in that sentence is “if”…
