This afternoon I ambled down to the allotment to feed the chickens. The weather has been typically gloomy and wet. In fact, the rain has been pretty much non stop for nearly two weeks!

Down in the greenhouse, Lilja and Leia are getting on better although Lilja seems to spend most of her time up on the top of the nest box. She is still quite nervous around me. However, sunflower seeds always seem to go down a treat. I grabbed a handful and held them out to Lilja. She ran away! Rolling my eyes at her, I left my hand out in the hopes she might get braver. Geoff makes chicken whispering look so easy!

Just when I felt my arm was going to fall off, she took a tentative step forward. Then another. Clearly harbouring reservations about getting any nearer to me, she paused for several minutes. Slowly, she edged forward and stretched her neck out towards my hands. Hardly daring to breathe, I watched as she cautiously pecked at the seeds. We still have a long way to go until she is comfortable eating out of my hand!
