So once again I haven’t made it down to the allotment thus I have decided to start planning for next year so I can finally stay on top of things.
Question is – where to start?
I usually start by drawing up a list of things I want to grow then get all muddled with when to plant so I intend to use a planner to help. I should also draw up a list of jobs to do and enlist long suffering Fiona to help.
List of jobs:
Repaint shed (urgent!)
Repair greenhouse frame (urgent!)
Clean all greenhouse glass and clear out all rubbish
Make a raised bed for herb garden
Make a raised bed for rhubarb
Lay woodchip down on new chicken coop
Rescue blueberry, raspberry and black currant bushes from the bottom plot
Clear out all old strawberry plants and replace with two different types
Clear out shed and tidy
Buy small fruit cage and assemble
(It has just occurred to me that much of this can be done over the winter…)
Things to grow:
Potatoes (3 varieties usually)
Onions (two varieties)
Runner beans
Field beans
Peas
Turnip
Parsnip
Carrot (maybe…)
Broccoli
Lettuce
Tomatoes
Cucumber
Chilli peppers (cayenne?)
Bell peppers
Aubergines
Garlic
Blueberries
Raspberries
Strawberries
Lingonberries
Black currant
Red currant
Apples
Pears
Cherries (if the tree is big enough)
Apricots (buy tree)
Almonds (buy tree)
Another fruit tree (decide then buy!)
Cabbage
Pumpkin
Courgettes
Marrow?
Chard
Kale?
I am sure I will add to this list in the coming weeks. Please comment if you have any tips or additions!
I love the list, we need a similar one! The only job I’ve done off mine is buying new wellies.

A fundamental piece of equipment for any allotment! I have spied that someone else on site has a wellie stand – I intend to build one!

Sadly the pretty ones didn’t fit me, so I just got plain green ones. Saved £13 though, which according to Mr Craft will buy us a lot of strawberry plants! Have fun with the welly rack. 😊

Mine are navy. I avoided pretty ones as I already get a lot of stick for naming chickens. Add in pretty wellies and I wouldn’t be taken seriously ever again!
