The notoriously fickle British weather has played it’s trump card over the last 24 hours. Rain. Lots of it. In some places, a month’s amount of rain in 12 hours. Everything is wet, flooding of motorways, roads, pavements as well as allotments.
It has been raining non-stop since yesterday evening and I was intrigued to see how my strategic planting was working. It isn’t. Half the plot is flooded. The more optimistic view is that it has worked but not for the biblical volumes of rain we have had in the last 24 hours.
Here’s hoping the rain stops soon, but judging from the forecast, it’s not likely. It brings to mind the Flanders and Swann song about the weather with the infamous lines:
June just rains and never stops, thirty days and spoils the crops….
Try rice! Surely the second half of June will be dryer!

It might be. Or wetter. Who knows with the British weather!
I am seriously considering rice!
