Sad news today from the allotment. After battling a stroke and recovering so brilliantly, I began to think that Pop had nine lives. Unfortunately, she went downhill last week and never picked up. We got a call from Geoff telling us she passed away on Sunday morning while we were away.
Pop’s recovery from her stroke was a testament to her determination and grit. Often people don’t think about chickens having a personality but Pop had it in spades. After chatting with Geoff, we worked out she must have been at least 5 but possibly as old as seven which is a good innings for a hybrid hen.
There are some hens who plod along and those who stick in the forefront of your memories due to their incredible personality. Pop will always be one of the latter.
Sorry for your loss, you care so much for your animals!

Thank you. Pop was a really special chicken and it’s hard to believe she has gone after spending hours with her each day for months

Aw, RIP Pop, sorry for your loss.
I’ve had chooks over the years and every one of them had their own personality and made sure we knew it!
It’s such a shame when they become such a big part of your life, but you gave her an excellent quality of life that other chickens can only dream of xx
